Gieves and Hawkes Chelsea Boot

Gieves and Hawkes Chelsea Boot

This season G&H offers a beautiful classic Chelsea boot in Dark Leaf Tan. This now classic style boot was introduced in the 60's and traditionally features a clean and simple design with elastic sides. It is generally considered a casual boot.

The color of the leather is deep and rich with woody hues. How good!

The elasticised sides make them very comfortable on the ankle and easy to put on and take off. It does however reduce the weather proofing of the boot.

G&H take roughly 12 weeks to make each boot. Don't be too impressed though because if they had a cobbler working on it for all that time he'd only be making a dollar per hour and G&H would be broke even then. They are an English "bench-made" boot with a Goodyear welt construction. The Goodyear welt is a traditional method of manufacturing that produces comfort, excellent shape retention, water resistance and repairable qualities. They feature leather insoles. G&H boast that each boot pass through 160 separate processes from the careful selection and cutting of the leather to the final polishing and packing.

G&H has been around since Gieves (founded 1785) and Hawkes (founded 1771) merged. They are famously located at Number 1 Saville Row, one of most renowned streets for tailoring in the UK. Since 1809 when they dressed King George III they have been the tailors to the royals. Today they have Royal Warrants of Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales. Impressive.

You can purchase these boots next time you visit Saville Row. If you can't wait till then, purchase online at www.gievesandhawkes.com. They will set you back US$400.00. Well worth every penny.
