Ninja Magazine - France

A recent shoot for France-based Ninja Magazine used the Vein Wear Long Brogue Boots in Grey and Black.

Ninja Mag and Lab Mag are both available to view free online at ninja-mag.com. I highly recommend adding it to your favourites list. It is available in both French and English sites.

The magazine features an inspiring collection of art, graphics, fashion, design and photography. It has been an honour to have my designs included.

Attitude's Magazine. Leopold's Advice.

Featured in Attitude Magazine: Australian super label, Leopold, matches relaxed denim shorts with a pair of Vein Wear black canvas loafers on the left. On the right, a razer sharp white dinner suit is paired with Vein's Patent Highlight Brogues.

One of Leopold's designers and all round top guy, Shandor Gancs, has some great fashion advice:

"This summer is all about soft tailoring. Sportswear has made a big impact on the summer collections. Clean whites of cricket and tennis have inspired this preppy and fresh look. Shorts are another major trend, from smart knee-length versions, to softly pleated and slouchy denims. This season the relaxed tailored suit is also a must-have, worn with a loose singlet or slouchy T-shirt underneath."

MX Threads Pick Out Vein Shoes

MX Threads says:

Listen up, boys. Whether you own one pair of shoes or 20, you need a versatile classic. This is it, Vein's Winged Lacer. Dont' be put off by the name. It will take you from suit to jeans in European [read Australian] style, not too pointy, just right.

Doing the Daily

The Daily Advertiser (NSW) ran this article on the Vein Winged Lacer shoe this week.

Straightly Weds

A straight, sharp 50's sensibility was featured in the recent Bride To Be magazine fashion shoot. The groom wears the Vein Laced Central Seam Shoe. A central seamed shoe is often referred to as a Gypsie cut.

Something With Numbers

Aussie band Something With Numbers dressed up in a few formal numbers for Ralph Magazine Style. Band members are wearing Vein Speed Stripe Ankle Boots and the Triangular Elastic Loafers.

You can get a pair for yourself on veinwear.com. And while you are surfing around, plastic in hand, jump onto iTunes and download the SWN new single "We'll Fight" as a special bundle with never before released song "Too Many Times".

Canvas Shoes

This is a case of credit where credit is not due. The shoe pictured in the Jan 2009 FHM at No.1 says it is one of ours. Alas it is not. We do have a similar style of canvas shoe (pictured at bottom right), but without the espadrilles thing...ewe.

You'll find the Vein shoe at a higher value than the other cheaper options. The reasons for this is that we like to make "shoes" as opposed to "canvas socks". Vein's are the only ones that have a full leather lining and toe and heel stiffeners for foot support and to keep them from looking like little more than a dirty sock in a week or so.

The article text is below. I have to warn you that along with a backpackers' romp fest comes crabs (fungi from not wearing socks), genital warts (bunions) and herpies (heel and arch pain):

As with girlfriends, so it is with
footwear - laying out a huge
emotional and financial investment in
something long term just means
getting stuck with the same pair for
months. On the other hand the cool,
simple slip-on - to milk the gratuitous
analogy a little further - is the footwear
equivalent of a backpackers' romp fest.

A couple of tips: there are a lot of
patterns out there, so be wary of
clashes - checks and stripes should
only go next to plain shorts or jeans, for
example. Also, only wear the chunkier
types with long trousers. Other than
that, just play the field ...

Fancy Footwork 9 to 5 Magazine

This article is in 9 to 5 magazine this month. It's all about great health and looking good. Dancing is a fun way to get in shape. They were inspired by the Vein Wear photo shoot with amazing dancer Phillipe, pictured. You may not be able to do the splits, but you can still look good in a new pair of Vein's!
Featured are the Simple Almond Loafers (TX99-04) for $249.00.

Up Close - Christopher McCallum

This article is in Brisbane News. They must have done some serious air-brushing on that picture...hehe ;) If you've read my bio before, it's probably all old news.
But you probably didn't know I had my sights set on the Air Force. Yep, it's true. I even did an extra subject (Maths C) before school started every day so I could be accepted as a pilot. When it finally came down to signing on the dotted line, I pulled out. Seems the Air Force is no place for someone that does not like to take orders.
Since then I've changed though. I love taking orders now...shoe orders ;)
Here's the article text:

CHRISTOPHER
MCCALLUM

27 // shoe designer

In high school Christopher had
his sights set on becoming a
fighter pilot. With his academic
record, he was in with a good
chance. But a desire to build a
business of his own set him on the
fashion path.

“I think all kids are creative, it just
gets stamped out of them in school,”
says Christopher, who now designs for
his men’s footwear label Vein Wear.

Six years ago, having ditched degrees
in Commerce and law, Christopher
eventually found a way to channel
his entrepreneurial ambitions when he
travelled to Taipei, the hometown of his
wife and now business partner, Szuting.

“I came across this pair of shoes that
obviously had some kind of profound effect
on me. I thought there was an opportunity in
Australia with shoes,” says Christopher, who
lives in Bardon with his wife.

After its launch, Vein Wear won stockists
Australia-wide, but had a huge setback when
a major national stockist declared bankruptcy
before paying its account.

Financially devastated, Christopher had
to rebuild his business. He collaborated
with designers to place his product on
runways across Australia, redefined the
label’s identity and won a store space
for a year in Fortitude valley fashion
precinct tCB, where his flagship store
remains. His business now includes
a high-end boutique footwear
line called Oken and a female
footwear division, Kitty Croquet.
Szuting takes care of the retail
and manufacturing side of things,
while Christopher heads the
design, financial and marketing
aspects of the business.

“Our main point of difference
is that we’re original Australian-designer footwear. We don’t
water down other styles from
elsewhere.”

South Eastern Hot Foot

This new style has proved very popular. It is the first design on a new last for Vein. The new last has a wide, rounded toe that is still low profile. The shoe looks sleek, but if very friendly on the foot.
This article was in the South Eastern Advertiser...err...however this is not an advertisement. Honest ;)
